The story behind
This song emerged from an improvisation exercise that went on for too long. Va rara is the result of over sixty hours of spontaneous recordings with analog synthesizers and sequencers, captured between 2020 and 2025 in the home studio of Juana Molina in General Pacheco, south of Buenos Aires. The material was developed during rehearsals for *Improviset*, a series of concerts prepared alongside keyboardist Odín Schwartz, where the goal was not to compose traditional songs, but to let sounds repeat until they found their own form. The track lasts just over four minutes, yet within that time it encapsulates the essence of that process: a loop that expands without haste, as if each repetition revealed something new.
The album that features it, Doga, is Juana Molina's first release of new material in eight years and her first work with a producer since Rara (1996). It was released in November 2025 under her own label, Sonamos, founded in 2021. The artist has always worked with minimal structures: since she was a teenager in Paris, where she grew up listening to radio programs she recorded on cassettes, she sought melodies anchored in just a few chords or notes, as if time stood still in a single musical gesture. In Va rara, this principle reaches its fullest expression: there is no forced bridge or chorus, only repetition that turns into trance and, suddenly, into a song.
