The story behind
Up Around the Bend, according to DoReSol
The energy of *Up Around the Bend* kicks off with a sharp, piercing guitar riff, an unmistakable signal that invites you to dive into the song. The lyrics, written by John Fogerty, paint a picture of a casual encounter on the road, an open invitation to join the party happening "around the bend." It's a direct, no-nonsense invitation that captures the essence of a spontaneous moment.
This piece was conceived and recorded in a hurry, just a few days before Creedence Clearwater Revival embarked on their European tour in April 1970. It was included on the album *Cosmo's Factory*, a work that showcased the band's versatility, spanning from rock and roll to the distinctive "swamp rock" sound. The single, released alongside *Run Through the Jungle*, performed notably, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1970 and earning a platinum certification for sales exceeding one million copies. In the UK, it also resonated strongly, reaching number three on their singles chart. Interestingly, the expression "around the bend" in British English can mean to go crazy, which forced the band to clarify to the press that the song was not about mental health issues. Over time, it has been reinterpreted by artists such as Elton John and the Finnish band Hanoi Rocks, who took it to number four in Finland with their 1984 version.
