The story behind
The song Una canción para la Magdalena, which lasts 4 minutes and 14 seconds, is part of the album 19 días y 500 noches. This work, released on September 6, 1999, was the twelfth studio album by Spanish singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina. The album, produced by Alejo Stivel (who was part of the group Tequila) and mixed by Brett Rader, had production by Enrique Berro García and Alejo Stivel. It was an ambitious work, becoming Sabina's most extensive album up to that point, with a total duration of 74:18 minutes.
The creation of 19 días y 500 noches involved a recording process that spanned seven months. There were complex negotiations with the record label, BMG Music Spain, as they initially advised against the idea of a double album due to its cost and because it was an unusual format in the Spanish-speaking market. Finally, an agreement was reached to adjust the format, and the songs that were left out would see the light later. The album had considerable commercial success, selling 500,000 copies. The official presentation of the album took place on September 7, 1999, at the Railway Museum of Madrid.
