The story behind
The song Barbi Superestar, with its duration of 6 minutes and 38 seconds, is presented as an extensive piece within the musical universe of Joaquín Sabina. Its conception and recording took place during a period of great artistic ambition, culminating in the album 19 días y 500 noches. This work, which became his twelfth studio album, achieved considerable sales figures, exceeding 500,000 copies. The production was handled by Alejo Stivel, known for his time with the band Tequila, and the editing was done by BMG Music Spain. The album, with a total of 74 minutes and 18 seconds, represented his longest work up to that point.
The gestation of 19 días y 500 noches was not a simple path. Seven months of studio work were necessary, and the negotiations for its release involved significant discussions. The record label, BMG Ariola, initially advised against the idea of a double album due to its cost and the Spanish market's unfamiliarity with formats of that magnitude. Finally, Sabina agreed to adjust the format, and the songs that were left out of the main edition were released later. The mixing of Barbi Superestar involved the participation of Brett Rader, while the overall production of the album fell to Enrique Berro García and Alejo Stivel.
