The story behind
The song *Tra te e il mare* was released as the first single from the album of the same name on August 21, 2000. It was written by Biagio Antonacci and produced by Laura Pausini herself, along with Alfredo Cerruti and Dado Parisini. For the Spanish-speaking market, a version with lyrics adapted by Ignacio Ballesteros was recorded, titled *Entre tú y mil mares*. The single was well received, reaching the top positions in Italy and entering the top twenty of the Hot Latin Songs charts in the United States and the French Singles Chart.
Over the years, *Tra te e il mare* has been performed on various occasions and in different contexts. Biagio Antonacci recorded his own version in 2008, which included a snippet of "Start Me Up" by The Rolling Stones. In 2013, the arrangement was revised for the compilation album 20 - The Greatest Hits / 20 - Grandes Éxitos, and the following year a new duet version with Spanish singer Melendi was released. The song has also been part of important live events: in 2001, Laura Pausini performed it at the Sanremo Festival; in 2002, she sang it with Biagio Antonacci at a concert in Milan, a performance that was recorded on the video album Live 2001/2002 World Tour. Later, in 2009, she participated in the benefit concert Amiche per l'Abruzzo, where she performed it with Elisa. In 2014, Antonacci sang it with Eros Ramazzotti and Laura Pausini at the San Siro stadium in Milan. Finally, in 2020, an acoustic version was presented from the Colosseum in Rome, as part of the virtual event I Love Beirut. The original music video was directed by Alberto Colombo and has a duration of 3 minutes and 49 seconds. In 2015, a new video was filmed for the Spanish version with Melendi in Madrid, under the direction of Leandro Manuel Emede and Nicolò Cerioni.
