The story behind
Things Will Never Be the Same, according to DoReSol
The music of Things Will Never Be the Same, with its 4:28 duration, was recorded in Sweden over an eleven-month period, as part of the album Joyride. This album was the successor to the successful Look Sharp! and the song It Must Have Been Love, which was featured on the soundtrack of Pretty Woman. The duo behind Roxette, composed of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, felt pressure from the record label to repeat their success but resisted moving to Los Angeles to work with American producers. Instead, the album was produced by Clarence Öfwerman, with Anders Herrlin and Alar Suurna as recording engineers, and the mixing was handled by Clarence Öfwerman, Roxette, and Alar Suurna.
Since their beginnings in 1986, Roxette, this Swedish new wave duo, has made a significant impact on music. While Per Gessle notes that they lean more towards rock than ABBA, their reach is undeniable. They have sold millions of records and singles, and had four of their songs reach number one on the US Billboard. They were pioneers as the first non-English speaking band to record an "unplugged" special for MTV. Their career, spanning over two decades, has been recognized with awards such as the World Music Award, MTV awards, BMI awards from England, and several Swedish Grammys. Their international recognition was solidified in 1989 with The Look, and continued with their participation in Pretty Woman. Additionally, they have composed for other soundtracks, such as Almost Unreal for Super Mario Bros and Stupid for Spun.
