The story behind
Terceiro, according to DoReSol
The song Terceiro, with a duration of 4 minutes and 22 seconds, is featured on the second studio album by Ultraje a Rigor, titled Sexo!!, which was released in 1987. This album, launched by WEA Records, was introduced to the public with a surprise show at a shopping center on Avenida Paulista in March of that same year. The release of Sexo!! aimed to challenge the idea that a successful debut album was often followed by one of lesser impact. Among the standout tracks on the album are A Festa, Eu Gosto de Mulher, Pelado —which was part of the soundtrack for Rede Globo's telenovela Brega e Chique— and the title track Terceiro, along with the song that gives the album its name.
A particular detail within Sexo!! is the song Prisioneiro, where bassist Maurício Defendi takes on lead vocals. This piece tells the story of a corrupt politician who profits from both drug trafficking and corruption. Due to its content, the song was banned from radio airplay by the Federal Censorship Board. Ultraje a Rigor, hailing from São Paulo, emerged in the early 1980s. They gained notoriety in 1983 with tracks like Inútil and Mim Quer Tocar. In 1985, they solidified their fame with the album Nós Vamos Invadir sua Praia, which earned them Brazil’s first gold and platinum record for rock. The album Nós Vamos Invadir sua Praia was later recognized as the "best national rock album" by Revista MTV in December 2008. The original lineup included Roger Moreira (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Leonardo Galasso on drums, Sílvio on bass, and Edgard Scandurra on lead guitar. After Sílvio left, Maurício Defendi took over on bass. Today, Roger Moreira is the only remaining founding member of the band. In 2011, Ultraje a Rigor appeared on Rede Bandeirantes' program Agora É Tarde, hosted by Danilo Gentili, and later joined the cast of SBT's The Noite, also presented by Gentili.
