The song Stellar, released as a single on June 13, 2000, became a key point for Incubus. It was part of their third album, Make Yourself, which went on sale on October 26, 1999. This album marked the first time Chris Kilmore, the new turntablist, participated in the recording, joining the band in February 1998 to replace DJ Lyfe. The production of Stellar was handled by Scott Litt, who also mixed it along with Rick Will. The track, composed entirely by Incubus, has a duration of 3:20 and was recorded at NRG studios in Los Angeles.

The impact of Stellar on the charts was notable. It reached second place on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and 17th place on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks. The music video, which premiered in 2000, features the band in an ethereal and spatial environment, where a woman travels to meet Brandon Boyd. The album Make Yourself, from which singles like Pardon Me, Stellar, and Drive were released, achieved double platinum certification by the RIAA. These tracks performed well on the Billboard's Alternative Songs chart, with Drive becoming the group's only top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 to date.
