Spit

The story behind

Sepultura recorded Spit as part of their album Roots, released in Europe in February 1996. The song is two minutes and forty-six seconds long, and feels slower than other tracks by the band. In Roots, the sound gets closer to Brazilian folklore, with rhythms that remind one of the popular music of the region. The drummer and vocalist of the time, Max Cavalera, was no longer with the band, as he had left the group after finishing a European tour. In the song, there are sections of collective percussion that give it a special touch, as if they were using traditional rhythm instruments. The track fits into the style that Sepultura started to explore after Chaos A.D., with a more focused approach on Brazilian culture.
