The story behind
Attitude, according to DoReSol
The Attitude video is not just a clip: it's a fight filmed in a martial arts cage, with Sepultura playing in the middle of a ring where executives mix with tribal warriors. In the end, the audience tears down the structure and Max Cavalera smashes his guitar, just like in the finale of Smells Like Teen Spirit. But there's something more personal: the concept was born from Dana Wells, Max's stepson, who also designed the single's cover with the band's tattoos on fans' bodies. Dana died shortly after the release of Roots, and his idea remained as a visual record of his energy.
The song was recorded between October and December 1995 at Indigo Ranch in Malibu, with Ross Robinson at the helm. The sound blends the band's groove metal with tribal percussion led by Carlinhos Brown, a detail that makes all the difference. The single was released in June 1996, with CD digipak and limited vinyl versions, and the B-side included live tracks like Kaiowas and Clenched Fist. Today, Attitude remains a recurring track in their shows, and even Cavalera Conspiracy covered it years later with the same chorus.
