The story behind
Soy pan, soy paz, soy más, according to DoReSol
When Piero presented his song to Mercedes Sosa, the so-called "Negra" recorded it on a Walkman on the spot. The next day, guitarist Omar Espinosa arranged it for guitar, which they performed together at the Complutense University of Madrid. The song, with music by Piero and lyrics by the Uruguayan poet Luis Ramón Igarzábal, was born in a context of political ideals and attention to the history of Latin America, and was recorded by Piero on his album *Calor humano* in 1981. What is distinctive about this piece is how it adapted to each performance; Piero used to change the lyrics with Mercedes Sosa, even modifying a large part of the text in places like Tucumán, to create a closer bond with the audience who already felt part of the song. The rhythms that compose it are characteristic of Argentine folklore, fusing the chacarera with the Paraguayan guarania.
The version by Mercedes Sosa appeared on her album *Mercedes Sosa en Argentina* in 1982. Over time, this work has continued to resonate and gain new interpretations. In 1983, Bolivian arranger Julio Barragán Saucedo created a choral version. Later, in 2014, Julia Zenko included it on her album *Mi libertad*. In 2020, the Canary Guitar Quartet along with soloist Besay Pérez presented it on a special New Year's Eve program on RTVC. And more recently, in 2024, Piero and Amanda Miguel announced a new duet collaboration, accompanied by a video.
