The story behind

María va, according to DoReSol

The song María va, with music by Antonio Tarrago Ros, presents us with a piece lasting almost four minutes that invites reflection through its interpretation. The production of this work was handled by Daniel Grinbank, who collaborated in shaping this theme.

Mercedes Sosa, born in San Miguel de Tucumán in 1935 and passed away in Buenos Aires in 2009, was a central figure in Argentine folk music. Known as La Negra Sosa or La Voz de América, her reach transcended borders, being recognized on continents such as America, Europe, Israel, and East Asia. She is considered one of the most important voices in Latin America, a promoter of the New Song Movement, and a key figure of the Latin American New Song. Her versatility led her to explore genres such as tango, rock, and pop, although she preferred to define herself as a "cantora," a term that resonated with the ideal of the Latin American new song, where she was one of its pioneers. This concept, which differentiates between "singer" (the one who can) and "cantor" (the one who must), was reflected in the titles of her albums such as Canciones con fundamento and Yo no canto por cantar.
