This album, released on September 11, 2000, became the best-selling and most popular of La Oreja de Van Gogh, with many considering it their masterpiece. The album title, El viaje de Copperpot, draws inspiration from the 1985 film The Goonies, referencing a treasure hunter character.

The group, originally from San Sebastián, in the Basque Country, began their musical journey in 1996. The initial lineup included Pablo Benegas, Álvaro Fuentes, Xabi San Martín, Haritz Garde, and the voice of Amaia Montero, who left the band in 2007 to pursue her solo career. Since 2008, Leire Martínez has been the group's vocalist. While commonly associated with pop-rock, the band has successfully incorporated influences from diverse genres such as ranchera, bossa nova, dance, electronic, and rock throughout their work. Their music has resonated in Latin America, the United States, and some countries in Europe like France or Italy, although in the latter, the impact was lesser, partly due to the economic situation in 2008 or coinciding with Amaia's departure. Nevertheless, the band undertook tours that included performances in cities like Paris, in venues such as La Cigale and L'Olympia, and explored European stages like Switzerland or the United Kingdom.
