The story behind

The song Cuídate by La Oreja de Van Gogh, with its 2:50 duration, deviates slightly from the group's initial sound, the so-called Donosti Sound, to venture into Power Pop territory. This shift is clearly perceived in their second album, El viaje de Copperpot, released in September 2000. The album title, incidentally, draws inspiration from the film The Goonies, referencing a character named Chester Copperpot. This work became the band's most successful and popular, consolidating their proposal with catchy melodies and lyrics that generally convey a sense of carefree spirit.

The group, originally from San Sebastián, Basque Country, began their formal journey in 1996. The founding members were Pablo Benegas, Álvaro Fuentes, Xabi San Martín, Haritz Garde, and vocalist Amaia Montero. In 2007, Amaia Montero embarked on a solo career, and since 2008, Leire Martínez took over as vocalist. Throughout their career, La Oreja de Van Gogh has explored a variety of genres, going beyond pop-rock, incorporating influences from ranchera, bossa nova, dance, electronic music, and rock. Their music has resonated in Latin America, the United States, and several European countries, although in some of the latter, the impact was less significant, coinciding with Amaia Montero's departure and the 2008 economic crisis. Despite this, the band performed important concerts in places like Paris, in venues such as La Cigale and L'Olympia, and their subsequent tours included ventures into Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
