Siestas ahí

The first time you listen to Siestas ahí, you’re left with the feeling that the song was already playing before it even began. It’s not a track that introduces itself with an obvious chorus or melodic hook; instead, it unfolds like a soundscape where sounds repeat, stretch, and blend until they form something that seems to emerge from a waking dream. Molina works with loops that aren’t perfect: there are small misalignments, breaths that don’t quite fit, as if time itself were improvising. This gives the song its hypnotic quality, that sway between the familiar and the strange that makes it hard to let go once it ends.

The track was born during the Improviset sessions, a concert series Juana Molina organized in 2019 with Odín Schwartz, using only analog synthesizers and sequencers. They recorded hours of material with no fixed structure, and from that emerged the seed of what would later become Doga. The final recordings were made between 2020 and 2025 in Molina’s home studio in General Pacheco, with stops at the residential studio Sonorámica in Traslas. They weren’t aiming for a conventional album but to capture those improvisations in their purest form, even if it meant leaving errors and imperfections in plain sight. Siestas ahí lasts 4:31, and in that time there isn’t a single moment of silence: everything flows as if the air itself were being shaped by the sounds.
