The story behind

Sexo, violencia y llantas, according to DoReSol

This song opens LUX like an operatic prologue: the piano and string arrangements from the first measure establish the tension between the earthly and the sacred that runs through the entire album. The title itself — Sexo, violencia y llantas — encapsulates that duality: the physical, the raw, the gritty that drags on the asphalt, against the ethereal that emerges in verses like "God" or "doves". The piece works as a threshold, with an ascending progression that ends up merging with Reliquia, the track that marks the true beginning of LUX's spiritual journey. It's two minutes and twenty-one seconds where Rosalía not only announces the album's central conflict, but makes it sound.

The recording of this track relied on a team of arrangers and producers who gave it that symphonic air: Vanessa Amara, Elliott Kozel, and Jake Miller handled the arrangements, while the mixing was entrusted to Ramiro Fernandez-Seoane, Francesco di Giovanni, and Manny Marroquin. Among them, Sir Dylan, Noah Goldstein, David Rodríguez, and Rosalía herself signed the production. In 2018, the same year Rosalía became the Spanish artist with the most Latin Grammy Awards in a single ceremony, this song appeared as the first track on LUX, an album that explored the boundaries between genres and emotions.
