The story behind
Secret Life, according to DoReSol
The recording of Secret Life featured Don Wershba as the engineer, while the mixing was handled by Harvey Goldberg. Behind the production was Mike Thorne, who helped shape this Soft Cell track. Formed in the early 1980s, the band became known for exploring themes ranging from love and romance to darker aspects of existence, tackling subjects such as perversion, drugs, or even murder. This approach, combined with their synthpop sound, positioned them as key figures in the New Romantic and New Wave scenes, sharing space with other artists of the era.
Soft Cell, consisting of Marc Almond on vocals and David Ball on synthesizers, achieved worldwide impact in 1981 with their reinterpretation of Tainted Love. Their style, often described as "futuristic," placed them alongside names like Depeche Mode, Human League, and Gary Numan. The inherent darkness in many of their compositions also drew in the growing gothic music scene. Throughout their career, some of their pieces have been revisited by other musicians, such as Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
