The story behind
Soft Cell recorded *Seedy Films* in 1980 and 1981 on a tight budget. They recorded at studios like Mediasound and Camden Cell, using basic equipment: a ReVox tape recorder, a borrowed Roland drum machine, a Korg synthesizer, and a Synclavier that cost a fortune. The song appeared on an album called Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, which became a hit. The first single was a cover of “Tainted Love,” which reached the top of the charts. The album also had two other singles that made it into the top five in the UK. The song “Sex Dwarf” caused controversy due to its music video, which was banned for its explicit content. The album’s title came from a sign at a strip club in Soho. The song “Seedy Films” stood out for its rhythm and synthesized sound, with a clear structure and straightforward lyrics. ↓ Skip to chords
