The story behind
Se esfuma tu amor, according to DoReSol
When addressing *Amigo*, we encounter a piece that, while belonging to the universe of *Valió la Pena*, Marc Anthony's sixth Spanish-language album, also dialogues with his previous career. This record marks a professional reunion with producer Sergio George, a collaboration that had not occurred since the 1995 album *Todo a Su Tiempo*. Curiously, *Valió la Pena* takes seven of the songs that already appeared on Anthony's previous album, *Amar Sin Mentiras*, and reinterprets them with salsa arrangements, in addition to incorporating the classic *Lamento Borincano* by Rafael Hernández. The impact of this approach was notable, as, like its predecessor, *Valió la Pena* reached the number one position on the *Top Latin Albums* chart.
The resonance of this album extended to important recognitions. In 2005, it was awarded *Best Salsa Album* at the Latin Grammy Awards, and also received the award for *Tropical Album of the Year* at the Premio Lo Nuestro that same year. The career of Marc Anthony, whose real name is Marco Antonio Muñiz Ruiz Rivera and who was born in New York in 1968, is vast and spans genres such as salsa, bolero, ballad, and pop. His initial foray into music was in hip hop, forming a duo with Little Louie, even reaching number one on the US charts in 1991. Subsequently, he was signed by Ralph Mercado for his RMM label, where he began his successful salsa career, achieving great impact with his first single, *Hasta que te conocí*, a composition by Juan Gabriel that led sales. His success extended to Spain, where he obtained gold records with the company Bat Discos, under the guidance of Jorge E. Gómez. A milestone in his international career was his participation in the play *The Capeman* by Paul Simon, whom he considers his mentor.
