The story behind

The debut album by French artist Manu Chao, titled Clandestino, was released in 1998. This work includes numerous audio fragments, among them excerpts from a speech by Subcomandante Marcos. As with his later records, Chao recorded most of the album himself, using a small laptop in various locations around the world. In the album's liner notes, this equipment is referred to as Estudio Clandestino. The French magazine Rolling Stone ranked this album at number 67 on the list of the greatest French rock albums of all time. Furthermore, Clandestino was featured in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" and reached number 469 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time in 2020.
