The story behind
Popstar, according to DoReSol
This song by Lali has a hook that jumps from the very first second: a short, catchy riff that repeats like a heartbeat, but with an unexpected twist at 0:45. It’s not a traditional loop, but something more organic, as if the sound moves between pop rock and electropop without settling. Lali’s voice layers distortion in the verses and clears up cleanly in the chorus, something uncommon in her earlier discography. The lyrics, in English, sound more direct than in her Spanish tracks, as if seeking a universal code for what comes next: a celebration of fame with a hint of warning.
It was recorded in April 2025 at Sony Music Argentina studios, but the process wasn’t the typical pop album routine. Lali and her team—Martín, Mauro De Tommaso, and Barreto—built the foundations in improvised sessions, blending guitars with analog synthesizers. The result is an album that doesn’t sound like her previous work: here, rock and punk seep through the electronic beats, and Popstar is the clearest example. The song lasts only 1:08, but in that time it achieves something rare: being short without losing intensity. It’s not filler, but a teaser of what’s to come in the album No Vayas a Atender Cuando el Demonio Llama, where the sound turns more experimental.
