The story behind
La Vela Puerca has always had this gift for blending rhythms that sound like a party but with lyrics that make you think. In Pino, from the album El Impulso (2007), the band takes that formula to the limit: the song starts with a festive air, almost like a call to gather, but the chorus sneaks in a melancholy that lingers. It's not just the contrast between ska and brass that captivates, but how the melody sways between joy and reflection without ever losing the groove. The track has just the right length, 4:34, so the rhythm doesn't drag but still has enough time to develop the idea.
The recording of El Impulso was a journey in itself: between November and December 2006, the band went through three studios in two countries. First at Panda Studios (Buenos Aires), then at IFU (Montevideo), and finally at Casa Blanca (Atlántida), where they finished polishing the tracks. Julio Berta handled the recording and mixing, while Tom Baker took care of the mastering in Los Angeles. Juan Campodónico led the artistic production, giving it that signature sound the band was already consolidating. The album was released in April 2007, and Pino ended up being one of those cuts that, despite not being the most promoted, stuck in the fans' memory for its ability to convey that unique mix of energy and nostalgia.
