The story behind

La Vela Puerca shaped Su ración during a recording journey that crossed borders: first at Panda Studios in Buenos Aires, then at IFU in Montevideo, and finally at Casa Blanca in Atlántida, before Julio Berta finished mixing it in February 2007. The album, El Impulso, was released in April 2007 with a sound that had already been developing through trumpets, trombones, and the blend of rock, reggae, and ska that defines them. But what makes Su ración special isn't just its exact duration of 4:06, but how that rhythm holds together across layers of brass and percussion that don't sound like mere accompaniment, but as an essential part of the song.

The band, led by Sebastián Teysera, recorded this track at a key moment in their career: right after De bichos y flores —produced by Gustavo Santaolalla— had taken them to perform on the shores of the Río de la Plata and across Argentina during their Girafónica tour in 2000. Between March and April 2004, already experienced in studios in Los Angeles and Montevideo, they sat down to record what would later become El Impulso. The album not only solidified their presence in Uruguay, but also led them to work with names like Juan Campodónico as artistic producer and Tom Baker for mastering, a detail reflected in the clarity of the final sound. Su ración remained there, amid that process, as a track that needs no long explanations: it sounds like what it is, a just portion of energy between notes and brass.
