The story behind
La Vela Puerca has spent years crafting a sound that blends ska, rock, and reggae, but in Frágil —a track from El Impulso— they achieved something different. It's not just the trumpet weaving with the guitar, nor the bass advancing like a steady heartbeat, but that feeling that the song breathes in two tempos: one accelerated and another that stretches out, as if the track itself had to hold itself in a fragile balance. The opening riff sounds like a warning, almost a whisper that turns urgent, and there lies the magic: in how the band turns the fleeting into something tangible, as if each note were a step on a tightrope.
They recorded it in three different studios —Panda Studios in Buenos Aires, IFU in Montevideo, and Casa Blanca in Atlántida— between November and December 2006, with Julio Berta at the helm. The process wasn't linear: the mix was finalized in February the following year, and the mastering was handled by Tom Baker in Los Angeles. Juan Campodónico oversaw the artistic production, giving the song that air of organic yet polished quality that makes it sound both raw and refined. When it was released as a single on March 29, 2007, it already carried the weight of months of adjustments and the energy of a band that, since its beginnings in 1995, had learned to turn stumbles into stepping stones.
