The story behind
Physical Fascination, according to DoReSol
The song *Physical Fascination* by Roxette, with its 3:30 runtime, is a sample of the sound the Swedish duo was exploring around the time of their third studio album, Joyride. Recorded over eleven months in Sweden, this album represented a period of high expectation for Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, who felt the pressure from their record label to repeat the success of previous works like Look Sharp!. Despite suggestions to move to Los Angeles and collaborate with experienced American producers, the duo opted to keep their creative process at home, trusting their own team. The production of Joyride was handled by Anders Herrlin and Clarence Öfwerman, with Anders Herrlin, Alar Suurna, and Clarence Öfwerman also involved in engineering and mixing, alongside the group itself.
The duo, formed in 1986, had already achieved international recognition in 1989 with the track *The Look*, and their participation in the soundtrack of Pretty Woman with *It Must Have Been Love* solidified their global presence. Roxette, known for their pop rock style with new wave influences, has sold millions of records worldwide, achieving several of their singles reaching the number one spot on the United States Billboard. While Joyride was released on March 25, 1991, the song *Physical Fascination* falls within this period of consolidation and sonic experimentation for the band, who were looking to define their musical identity beyond the trends of the moment.
