The story behind

The track Phœnix, at 4 minutes and 57 seconds, emerges from Homework, the debut studio album by Daft Punk. This work, released in January 1997 by Virgin Records and Soma Quality Recordings, marked the beginning of a career that would define the sound of electronic music. Before consolidating this album, the French duo had already captured the attention of major record labels thanks to singles that resonated on Soma Quality Recordings. It was in 1996 that they signed with Virgin, and although they initially considered releasing their creations as independent singles, the amount of accumulated material led them to the decision to compile it into an album. The title, Homework, makes direct reference to the place where much of this material was conceived: a home studio.

Homework proved to be a resounding success, climbing the charts in 14 countries. It reached third place on the album charts in France and eighth in the United Kingdom. In the United States, it positioned itself at number 150 on the Billboard 200. Tracks like Da Funk and Around the World became number ones on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play chart. Behind these productions are Thomas Bangalter and Guy‐Manuel de Homem‐Christo, who served as producers. The duo, formed by these two French musicians, Guy Manuel de Homem-Christo (born in 1974) and Thomas Bangalter (born in 1975), consolidated themselves in the late 1990s in the house music scene, not only in France but also internationally, expanding their influence with the synthpop style. Their work is considered fundamental within French house. During their career, from 1996 to 2008, they were represented by Pedro Winter, also known as Busy P, who leads Ed Banger Records.
