The story behind
Daft Punk released Around the World in 1997, within their first album Homework. The song was recorded unintentionally as a single, but ended up being one of the most played. The idea was simple: a constant bass line and a processed voice that repeats "around the world" over and over. The repetition is what makes it unique, as if the song moves on its own, without the need for additional elements. The video by Michel Gondry accompanies the song with a visual that seems like a vinyl record in motion. Robots walk in circles, athletes climb and descend stairs, and there are people dressed as swimmers. Everything represents something from the music: the bass, the keyboard, the guitars. Gondry wanted the choreography to be clear, without cuts or zooms, as if it were part of the song itself. The idea came from him and expanded with Blanca Li. The result is an image that moves with the music, without the need for words. ↓ Skip to chords
