The story behind

The song Pétala, with its 4:42 duration, emerges as a key piece in the discography of Djavan, an artist who has managed to fuse the rhythmic roots of South America with the musical vibrations of Africa. His career led him to Rio de Janeiro in 1973, where he began performing in nightclubs, cultivating a sound that would later be consolidated. After participating in various festivals, his recognition grew, culminating in the recording of A voz, o violão e a arte de Djavan in 1976, an album that contained Flor de lis, one of his first major hits. Djavan's subsequent works continued to explore these African influences, giving rise to hits like Açaí, Samurai, and Sina.

The album Luz, released in 1982, represented a particular moment in Djavan's career. The invitation from CBS Records to record an album aimed at the American audience took him to the United States. There, under the production of Ronnie Foster, he had the opportunity to collaborate with Stevie Wonder on the song Samurai. Although Luz did not achieve overwhelming success in the American market, it resonated strongly in Brazil, selling half a million copies by the fall of 1984. Djavan's vision, which combines the traditional with the contemporary, is manifested in every note, creating his own musical language that continues to captivate.
