The story behind
The song Perfect Day, with its 4:06 duration, is a piece that emerged at a time of high expectation for the Swedish duo. Following the success of Look Sharp! and the resonance of It Must Have Been Love, from the soundtrack of Pretty Woman, the pressure for the next album, Joyride, was considerable. Despite the record label's suggestions to move to Los Angeles and collaborate with renowned American producers, the duo opted to maintain their creative process in Sweden, recording the album over eleven months. This decision allowed the characteristic sound of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle to remain intact, resulting in a work that, according to a retrospective review, represented "the work of two pop artists at the peak of their game".
The album Joyride, released on March 25, 1991, not only met expectations but exceeded anticipated sales, reaching the number one spot on the charts of seven European countries and achieving multi-platinum certifications. The production of this record was handled by Clarence Öfwerman, with recording engineering by Anders Herrlin and Alar Suurna, and mixing shared between Clarence Öfwerman, Roxette, and Alar Suurna. This recording process in Sweden, far from external influences, consolidated the musical identity of Roxette, a duo formed in 1986 that has since sold 75 million records, achieving four of their singles reaching number one on the US Billboard.
