The story behind
Incubus released Pardon Me in October 1999, as the first single from their album Make Yourself. The song stood out for its radio-friendly sound and for reaching high positions on various charts. The idea came from a photo of an old man who was mysteriously burned, something Brandon Boyd saw in a magazine and that made him think about his own problems. The song was recorded in a Los Angeles studio, with production by Scott Litt. The video, directed by Steven Murashige, shows Boyd and his father walking towards each other, one aging and the other rejuvenating, until they cross paths and continue on their way. The video also features the musicians in white and red outfits, surrounded by people in a red box. The video was first shown in January 2000.
