The story behind
When Megadeth embarked on the creation of Cryptic Writings, their seventh studio album, there was a shift in their approach. The band, which until then had remained firm in its thrash metal roots, decided to experiment with more accessible song structures, with radio play in mind. This change, which also involved an adaptation in the lyrics to reach a wider audience, generated divided opinions among music critics. The album, released on June 17, 1997, under Capitol Records, marked a milestone as it was the last to feature drummer Nick Menza, thus closing the band's longest-lasting lineup to date, which had recorded four studio albums.
For this work, Dave Mustaine and company opted to work with producer Dann Huff in Nashville, Tennessee. The choice of Huff was due to dissatisfaction with the work of their previous producer, Max Norman. The result of this collaboration, which also included production by Mustaine himself, was an album with twelve tracks. The song One Thing, with a duration of 4:38, is part of this project. The band, formed in 1983 in Los Angeles, California, by Dave Mustaine after his departure from Metallica, is recognized for its distinctive guitar style, Mustaine's unique vocal delivery, and the musical complexity that characterizes their work.
