The story behind

The song *Almost Honest* by Megadeth, with a duration of 4:04, was composed by Dave Mustaine and M Friedman. It was released as part of the band's seventh studio album, titled Cryptic Writings, on June 17, 1997, under the Capitol Records label. This album marked the last appearance of drummer Nick Menza, thus closing the band's longest-standing lineup to date, which had recorded four studio albums. For the production of Cryptic Writings, Megadeth decided to work with Dann Huff in Nashville, Tennessee, seeking a different sound from their previous producer, Max Norman. The album features twelve tracks with structures designed for radio, and the lyrics were also adjusted to reach a wider audience.

The recording process involved Mark Hagen as engineer, while the mixing was handled by Jeff Balding. Dann Huff and Dave Mustaine shared production duties. The American band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1983 by Dave Mustaine after his departure from Metallica, is recognized for its distinctive guitar style, musical complexity, and lyrical themes, which often address politics, war, and relationships. Throughout their career, Megadeth has released fourteen studio albums, and has achieved multiple platinum and gold records in the United States, including the multi-platinum Countdown to Extinction from 1992, and has appeared in the top 10 of the Billboard charts.
