The story behind

O amor é feio, according to DoReSol

The song O amor é feio, with a duration of 3 minutes and 12 seconds, is part of the second studio album by the Brazilian project Tribalistas. This trio, consisting of Marisa Monte, Arnaldo Antunes, and Carlinhos Brown, released this work in 2017, nearly fifteen years after their first self-titled album caused a sensation.

The history of Tribalistas as a collective dates back to 2002, when these artists, already collaborators and friends for some time, decided to formally join forces. Their first album, released in late 2002 in Brazil and internationally in 2003, was a resounding success in Brazilian popular music. It reached the top of the charts and sold 1.5 million copies in Brazil alone, all without the need for promotion or interviews. Their connection went back much further; for example, Marisa Monte had already performed Comida on her 1989 album, a song originally by Titãs, the band of which Arnaldo Antunes was a vocalist. Over the years, Marisa also included songs by Antunes and Brown in her own works, such as Mais from 1991, which also featured compositions by Nando Reis. Despite living in different cities — Marisa in Rio de Janeiro, Arnaldo in São Paulo, and Carlinhos in Salvador — their professional and personal bond led them to create music together, often working in pairs to streamline the process.
