The story behind
Carnavália, according to DoReSol
The song *Carnavália* by Tribalistas, with a duration of 4:17, emerges from a project born out of a deep and lasting artistic connection between Marisa Monte, Arnaldo Antunes, and Carlinhos Brown. This union, which solidified into the supergroup Tribalistas, was not a sudden event but the culmination of nearly a decade of previous collaborations in their individual careers. As early as 1989, Marisa Monte performed *Comida*, a piece that originally belonged to Titãs, a band for which Arnaldo Antunes was the vocalist and leader. Over the years, Monte included songs written by Antunes and Brown on her albums, forging a bond that transcended the professional to become a solid friendship.
Despite living in different cities —Monte in Rio de Janeiro, Antunes in São Paulo, and Brown in Salvador— the desire to create together became palpable. Although they usually composed in pairs, the idea of a joint album took shape. The result was the self-titled album Tribalistas, released in Brazil in November 2002. This work, which included thirteen unreleased tracks, had a massive reception, reaching the top of the music charts and selling 1.5 million copies in Brazil, all without resorting to promotions or interviews. The success extended internationally the following year, in 2003. Fifteen years after that first major impact, in 2017, the trio returned with their second studio album, also titled Tribalistas, demonstrating the enduring relevance of their musical proposal.
