The story behind
The song Nobody Knows by Fito Páez has something special: it is a brief piece, lasting just one minute, yet it carries a weight that goes beyond its duration. Recorded in 1988 as part of a demo called Novela, this track never made it onto an official album. Instead, it remained as a record of a moment when the artist was exploring ideas for a soundtrack that, due to financial issues, was never completed. What’s curious is that, despite its fleeting origins, Nobody Knows ended up being one of those recordings that fans cherish for its unique atmosphere, where the blend of piano and voice that would later become Fito Páez’s signature style is already evident.
This demo originated in a particular context: Fito Páez, then in his mid-twenties, was working on material for a short film that never saw the light of day. The project faded into obscurity, but some of the songs he composed for it later resurfaced in other albums, such as Circo Beat or the album Sol en Cinco by Fabiana Cantilo. Nobody Knows, however, remained as a testament to that early stage, when the musician had not yet achieved the massive recognition that would come with El amor después del amor and Circo Beat. Later, his career took off: in the 90s, he sold over a million copies between those two albums, won his first Latin Grammys in 2000, and in 2005, the Konex Foundation awarded him the Konex Platinum Prize as Argentina’s best rock composer of the decade.
