The story behind
I don't need anything sounds like a venting that resists becoming a song. The track progresses with a rhythmic base that sways between urgency and relaxation, as if the guitar and bass were telling a story at the same time the drums mark the pace. There are no unnecessary adornments: the arrangement holds together with just the right layers, where each instrument has its moment without stepping on each other. What stands out most is how the track resolves its chorus with a melodic twist that doesn’t seem forced, but rather arises from the same energy that precedes it.The recording of This strong wind that blows —the second album by No Te Va Gustar— was split between two cities. Most of the tracks were recorded in Santiago de Chile in March 2002, under the supervision of Mariano Pavéz, who also handled the mixing. Only Clara was recorded in Montevideo, at the La Zapada studio, with Álvaro Reyes at the helm. The process wasn’t linear: sessions at La Zapada and La salida de Abril alternated with rehearsals, and the mastering was completed at Clio (Santiago), by Joaquín García and Pavéz himself. The album was officially released on October 12 of that year at the Teatro de Verano, and since then the band hasn’t stopped touring the country. On this record, No Te Va Gustar explored sounds that weren’t usually found together in Uruguayan rock at the time, blending ska, reggae, murga, and even touches of classic rock, with lyrics mostly written on Emiliano Brancciari’s guitar —and two tracks co-signed by Mateo Moreno.
