The story behind
In the sonic universe of Djavan, the piece *Minha irmã* presents itself with a concise duration of 2:05, a fragment that encapsulates a particular essence. This song is part of the album Luz, released in 1982, a work that sought to build bridges to an American audience. It was during the recording of this album in Los Angeles that Djavan had the opportunity to collaborate with the renowned musician Stevie Wonder on the track Samurai, an experience that undoubtedly enriched the album's sonic landscape. The production of Luz was handled by Ronnie Foster, who worked alongside Djavan to shape these compositions.
Djavan's path to this point is a fusion of roots and explorations. Born in Maceió, Alagoas, in 1949, this Brazilian singer and songwriter has skillfully interwoven the traditional rhythms of South America with the vibrations of African music. His beginnings included forming the group Luz, Som, Dimensão, where they performed covers of The Beatles. Upon moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1973, he began performing in nightclubs, and after participating in various festivals, his talent was noticed. His debut album, A voz, o violão e a arte de Djavan, released in 1976, contained Flor de lis, a song that became one of his biggest hits, marking the beginning of a career characterized by the incorporation of diverse influences, such as African music in later albums.
