The story behind
The raw energy that defines Aerosmith has been evident since their beginnings, and Make It is a clear example of this. This song, with a duration of 3:41, was conceived as a promotional single for their self-titled debut album, released in 1973. The band's sound at the time was deeply rooted in blues, but it already pointed towards a dense hard rock with its own identity, differentiating itself from what was heard on the rock scene of the era. The entire album was gestated in just two weeks at Intermedia Studio in Boston, Massachusetts, with the participation of engineers such as Adrian Barber, Robert Stoughton, and Caryl Weinstock, and production by Adrian Barber and Buddy Verga.
This first record by Aerosmith, which included tracks like Walkin' the Dog (originally by Rufus Thomas) and the future hit Dream On (which would reach the Top 10 in America after its re-release in 1976), managed to reach #21 on the Billboard 200. The band, formed in 1970, already had the lineup that was beginning to make a name for itself in Boston: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, and Ray Tabano, who would be replaced by Brad Whitford in 1971. After signing with Columbia Records in 1972, this debut album laid the groundwork for a career that would solidify them with later works such as Toys in the Attic (1975) and Rocks (1976).
