Lounge Act

The lyrics of Lounge Act were written by Kurt Cobain and focus on a past relationship with Tobi Vail of Bikini Kill. There are phrases that suggest this connection, such as "I still smell her scent on you," which position it as a kind of continuation or echo of Smells Like Teen Spirit. In fact, Cobain even wrote a letter to Vail in which he mentioned that he only played Lounge Act when his wife was not present. The album it belongs to, Nevermind, was recorded in May and June 1991 at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys and Smart Studios in Madison. The production was handled by Butch Vig, who, along with James Johnson, Jeff Sheehan, and the band itself, was responsible for the recording engineering. The final mix was done by Andy Wallace. This album, released on September 24, 1991, by DGC Records, marked Dave Grohl's debut on drums with the band and presented a more polished and accessible sound than previous works. Unlike the more hedonistic themes common in the rock music of the time, Nevermind projected the image of the sensitive artist within mainstream rock, exploring a range of emotions from dark to humorous.
