Later, her manager and future husband, René Angélil, bet heavily on her talent, mortgaging his home to finance her first album. In 1990, she released *Unison*, her first English-language production, which positioned her as a pop artist with great potential in North America and the English-speaking world. Throughout the 80s, she signed with CBS Records in Canada. During the 1990s, with the support of Angélil, she achieved global fame by joining Epic Records and releasing a series of albums in English and French, establishing herself as one of the most successful pop singers. In 1999, at the peak of her career, she announced a hiatus to start a family and be with her husband, who had been diagnosed with cancer. Two years later, she returned to the pop music scene with a contract for a series of concerts.
