The story behind

Lafourcade returns to the essential in Lágrimas cancioneras, but this time from a different perspective. Recorded on analog tape over three weeks at Sony Music studios, the song breathes that warm, organic air only achieved when the album is crafted live, without digital touch-ups. The result is a track that sounds like an open workshop: each instrument converses with the other in real time, as if the Lágrimas had sprung forth in a single take, without second attempts. There is something in its structure — that sway between the main melody and instrumental counterpoints — that makes it feel more like a waltz than a common ballad, with a tempo that stretches without haste but without pause.

The song is part of Cancionera, an album where Lafourcade sheds her name to adopt that of La Cancionera, her artistic alter ego. The record was conceived in 2024, just as the world continued moving between endless screens and corrections, and she chose the opposite: recording with 18 musicians in the same space, using analog equipment that demanded precision but also allowed for risk-taking. Adán Jodorowsky, her longtime collaborator, joined her in production, seeking that sound she had already explored in De Todas but with a different freedom. The Lágrimas last five minutes and fifteen seconds, enough time for Lafourcade’s voice — warm, deep in the lows and ethereal in the highs — to intertwine with string and percussion arrangements, creating an atmosphere that seems plucked from another era but firmly rooted in the present.
