The story behind
La rumba del perdón, according to DoReSol
Rosalía closes LUX with an unexpected twist: La rumba del perdón is not just another track, but a bridge between two worlds. Recorded with the collaboration of two iconic voices of Spanish flamenco —Estrella Morente and Sílvia Pérez Cruz—, the song is built on a rhythm that pulses between tradition and reinvention. The lyrics, written during the El Mal Querer era alongside her frequent collaborator El Guincho, do not narrate just any forgiveness: they speak of loyalties that survive in the shadow of shady business, where a wife’s love defies even the world of drug traffickers. It is this contrast —the rawness of the story and the elegance of its interpretation— that makes it sound unlike anything else on the album. The song was born at a pivotal moment for Rosalía: while finishing El Mal Querer, the album that catapulted her to the global stage.
The arrangements were handled by an eclectic team: Elliott Kozel, Makarines and Caroline Shaw shaped a foundation that oscillates between the classical and the experimental, while production was led by Noah Goldstein, David Rodríguez and, of course, the artist herself. The mix, signed by Ramiro Fernández-Seoane, Francesco di Giovanni and Manny Marroquin, reinforces that sense of living texture, as if the track breathes through layers of sound. At 4:11 in length, La rumba del perdón does not aim to be epic, but precise: every note, every breath from the collaborators, is there to tell a story that does not apologize, but demands it.
