The story behind
La gaviota, according to DoReSol
The Seagull is a song by Silvio Rodríguez, included in his album Unicornio from 1982. The lyrics are based on the play The Seagull by Antón Chéjov, written in 1896. The song follows the story of four characters: Nina, a young woman who wants to succeed in theater, Irina, an actress who no longer has the same brilliance, Konstantín, a playwright who feels frustrated, and Borís, an experienced writer. Between them develop romantic and artistic conflicts. The play was first performed in 1896 in Saint Petersburg, but the audience received it poorly. It was not until 1898, when Konstantín Stanislavski directed it in Moscow, that the play found its place. The song by Silvio Rodríguez reflects the tension between what is said and what is felt, something that also occurs in the original play.
