The story behind
The Swedish duo Roxette, comprised of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, released Joyride in March 1991, building on the momentum of their international success with Look Sharp! and the popularity of It Must Have Been Love, a song included in the soundtrack of Pretty Woman. The recording of Joyride spanned eleven months in Sweden, a period during which the duo felt pressure from the record label to repeat their success. Despite suggestions to move to Los Angeles and work with renowned American producers, Roxette preferred to maintain their creative process at home. The album was well-received by both critics and the public, being praised for its musical quality and reaching the number one spot on the charts in seven European countries.
Since their formation in 1986, Roxette established themselves as one of Sweden's most successful groups, with a career spanning over two decades. Their global reach became evident in 1989 when The Look catapulted them to the top of the charts in the United States. Subsequently, their participation in the soundtrack of Pretty Woman with It Must Have Been Love solidified their international presence.
