The story behind
Já sei namorar, according to DoReSol
The song Já sei namorar was born from an initial idea by Arnaldo Antunes, intended for Marisa Monte. In fact, part of that melody and lyrics ended up forming part of the song Beija Eu, included in Marisa Monte's 1991 album Mais. However, the idea for Já sei namorar remained on hold until the Tribalistas project emerged. It was then that Marisa Monte shared the lyrics with Carlinhos Brown, the third member of the trio, and together they gave it the final touch. This track was released as the first single from the group's self-titled debut album in October 2002, through the Phonomotor and EMI labels.
The album Tribalistas, released in late 2002 in Brazil and internationally in 2003, became a great success. It reached the top of the music charts and sold 1.5 million copies in Brazil, all without the need for a major promotional campaign or interviews from the members. The collaboration between Arnaldo Antunes, Carlinhos Brown, and Marisa Monte was not new; they had already been working together on their individual projects for almost a decade. Arnaldo Antunes, for example, had been the singer and leader of Titãs, a band for which Marisa Monte performed Comida on her first album in 1989. Over the years, Marisa Monte frequently included songs by Arnaldo Antunes and Carlinhos Brown in her work, forging a deep friendship in addition to a professional relationship. Despite living in different cities – Marisa Monte in Rio de Janeiro, Arnaldo Antunes in São Paulo, and Carlinhos Brown in Salvador – they managed to compose together. Já sei namorar was one of the songs that was part of the group's first world tour, the Tribalistas Tour, which took place between 2018 and 2019. In 2026, Italian singer Laura Pausini recorded a version of this song for her album Io Canto. The music video for Já sei namorar shows people from different parts of Brazil singing and dancing to the track, interspersing scenes with Arnaldo Antunes, Marisa Monte, and Carlinhos Brown themselves.
