The story behind

Itsári, according to DoReSol

Itsári sounds like a sonic journey that stands out from the rest of the album. It's not just another track on Roots, but a bridge between the raw metal edge of Sepultura and the organic heartbeat of Brazilian roots. The song breathes in a rhythm that doesn't fit the traditional four-four time: the bass and drums weave a groove that oscillates between the tribal and the industrial, while Andreas Kisser's guitar carves sharp lines over that backdrop. There's something in the air that evokes a ritual, but with the distortion of a maxed-out amplifier. The recording of Itsári took place in the United States, during sessions filled with experimentation.

Sepultura had decided to delve deeper into indigenous sounds, and for that, they brought in Carlinhos Brown, who not only contributed live percussion but also shaped the ensemble sections with an almost architectural approach. The final result was entrusted to Ross Robinson as producer, a figure who had already worked with bands like Korn and who here pushed the group to explore more organic textures without losing intensity. The final mix, handled by Andy Wallace and his team, gave it that gritty shine that makes the song sound as powerful in a stadium as in a nighttime ritual. It lasted 4:49, but within that time, layers of sound seem to expand.
