The story behind
I Remember You, according to DoReSol
Recorded over eleven months in their native country, Roxette's album Joyride emerged at a time of great expectation. Following the international success of Look Sharp! and the impact of It Must Have Been Love, from the soundtrack of Pretty Woman, the Swedish duo felt pressure from the record label. Despite suggestions to move to Los Angeles and collaborate with experienced American producers, Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle chose to remain in Sweden, seeking their own sound. This decision resulted in a work that, according to a retrospective review, captured two pop artists at the peak of their creativity.
The duo, formed in 1986, consolidated their global recognition in 1989 with The Look, which reached the top spots on the US charts. Their connection with cinema continued with It Must Have Been Love, specifically its version for Pretty Woman, and later with songs like Almost Unreal for Super Mario Bros. Roxette's music, with Per Gessle as the main songwriter, is characterized by a strong rock orientation, differentiating them from other renowned Swedish groups. They have managed to sell 75 million records and singles, with four of their songs reaching number one on the US Billboard, and they were pioneers as the first non-English speaking band to record an unplugged for MTV.
