The story behind
a-ha released the song I Dream Myself Alive in 1985, as part of their first album Hunting High and Low. They recorded it in a studio in Twickenham, London, with producers named Tony Mansfield, John Ratcliff and Alan Tarney. It was an album that sold a lot, especially in Europe and the United States. The song was released as part of several singles from the album. One of them was Take On Me, which had a very special video. They made it with a director who had previously made videos for other famous artists, but this one was different: it mixed real images with animation. The video was shown on a local station and then on MTV. The song became number one in the United States and number two in the United Kingdom. I Dream Myself Alive was also part of the promotional campaign for the album, but it did not receive the same attention as other singles. Although it was not as successful as Take On Me, it remains part of the history of a-ha and of that first album that launched them into the world.
