The story behind
La Vela Puerca has a sound that resonates in every note, but in Hoy tranquilo the Uruguayan band achieves something different: a track where apparent calm conceals a rhythm that never stays still. The song progresses with a foundation that seems to breathe, where trumpets and winds intertwine without rushing, yet never stop. It's that contrast that makes it special: a melody that invites you to nod along without needing to speed up, as if time itself had become flexible. The track doesn't shout, but neither does it whisper; it simply exists, with a presence that doesn't ask for permission to linger in your mind.
Recorded between November and December 2006 in three different studios — Panda Studios in Buenos Aires, IFU in Montevideo, and Casa Blanca in Atlántida — Hoy tranquilo was one of the cuts that defined El Impulso, the band's fourth album. The process wasn't easy: mixing took place in February 2007, and mastering was handled by Tom Baker in Los Angeles, while artistic production was overseen by Juan Campodónico. The result is a 4-minute and 25-second track that, though neither the longest nor the most explosive on the album, ends up being one of those songs you can't get out of your head. It's no coincidence that, alongside Frágil and El Señor, it was one of the singles that helped the album gain strong traction across the region.
