The story behind
Feel Good Inc., according to DoReSol
When you dive into Feel Good Inc., you’re met with an energy that grabs you from the very first moment. The rhythmic foundation, with its hip-hop vibe blending into something rockier, invites you to move. What’s fascinating is how that mix feels so natural, as if it had always been there. Damon Albarn’s voice guides you through the lyrics, and the appearance of De La Soul adds an unexpected and brilliant twist, bringing that spark that makes the song so special. It’s as if two musical worlds collide and create something entirely new.
The story behind Feel Good Inc. has its own charm. Damon Albarn composed it in 2003 while traveling to Coachella, inspired by a landscape of windmills that reminded him of a simpler time. The idea of the windmills, in fact, ties into an old poem and represents a spark of optimism. The collaboration with De La Soul happened organically; they were wrapping up another project and, after hearing the instrumental track Albarn sent them, David Jolicoeur was so captivated he wanted to join in. The laughter you hear in the song, by the way, belongs to Vincent Mason, another member of De La Soul, who was simply enjoying the music playing. All of this came together in 2004, primarily in studios in London, and was released as the lead single from Demon Days in May 2005.
